The Triangular, as the name implies, is annual 3 way competition between Winchester golf clubs namely Royal Winchester, South Winchester and Hockley. This is a great competition between local clubs involving Men, Ladies and Junior sections; promoting camaraderie as well as affording the opportunity to visit our neighbours and welcoming them to our course in friendly rivalry.
30 members from each club make up a team with 10 playing at each venue and combined stableford points deciding the winners. The event and SWGC team were organised by our Vice Captain Mr Steve Parrett and a fantastic job he made of it too, especially with the weather!!
Thanks to everyone who volunteered their services and supporting the club without which this competition of 23 years would simply not be possible.
We were the host this year with the meal and presentations held once everyone had converged on SWGC from Royal and Hockley, my thanks to Alex and his team for a great buffet enjoyed by all.
My Thanks also to Roy Stranger, Jeremy and Lindsay Dolphin for their administration, organisation, issuing cards and collating scores from all 3 clubs, very slick and greatly appreciated.
And so the results …..
Individual prizes are awarded to the best player at each course in each section; Men, Ladies & Juniors our winners were:
Paul Nielson best score at Royal Winchester
Peter Tubb best score at South Winchester
And special mention to our Junior Captain Josh Mulcahy who shot 40 points at Hockley with a superb 1 under round and best of the bunch !
Hockley Golf Club were the defending champions and once again proved to be great competitors, particularly on their home course – amassing 41 more points than ourselves in 2nd place and Royal in 3rd a further 13 points back.
We were oversubscribed with volunteers to play this year and I, for one, will have my name down on the sign-up sheet as soon as it is released in 2020
To repeat last year’s mantra “Next Year we win …….”
Thank you once again to everyone involved in showing our club and its members in the best possible light.
Peter Tubb
