“ Rare bird sighted at SWGC”
Bank Holiday Monday saw a “ knockout” competition impeccably organised and run by Malcolm Berryman, thank you for your all your efforts in keeping it viable despite last minute drop-outs and no shows.
15 pairs battled in balmy conditions in a 4ball better ball format with a “knock-out” phase in the bar after all rounds were completed. The chaos and mayhem that normally ensues was not present on this occasion! and the Final pairings were duly arrived at in quick time. Just missing out on the Final despite a “net” hole-in-one was husband and wife combination Mel & Peter Williams, a great round of 64 net (Mel with a 2 on the 2nd)
The Final was contested between Steve Witczak & John Turner vs Alan McEwan & Alastair Jones not surprisingly a close contest with never more than a hole in it, many though it was all over when Mr McEwan chipped in from the bunker for a net ALBATROSS on the 12th !! But we had not reckoned for the steady play of Messer’s Witczak & Turner who ran out worthy winners !!

Over 50’s Mens Team Bridport Bowl Update
The results of the 1st round matches of the Bridport Bowl have just been published and with our home and away wins we came a very creditable 6th out of the 64 teams that entered the competition.The competition now reverts to straight knock out over one leg and our 6th place in round 1 rewards us with a 2nd round HOME draw against the 11th place team – Highcliffe Castle.The match will be played on Saturday June 8th at South Winchester.Steve Gibbs
