Sunday the 1st December saw the four incoming Captains standing on the first tee looking very nervous together with over 100 people watching and waiting to express their opinion on the golf they were about to see.

Fortunately, none of the Captains embarrassed themselves and afterwards (but only afterwards) realised that they were absolutely delighted at the support they received, the parrot epaulettes were a lovely touch.

The ensuing Christmas Cup was played in beautiful crisp sunny conditions and was won by the team of Jenny Bone, Colin Jenkins, Tony Czapp and Ray Hallett who scored 90 points to beat Liz Bailey, Paul Stephens and Charles Bone (with a ghost card for a no-show) on a score of 87. A profitable day for the Bone household.

With the entrance fee income used for competition prizes, the lolly stick sales raised just over £600 for the Captain’s Charity, Simon Says – thanks again for your generosity.

Lastly, some moaning and some praise. No-shows, those who fail to turn up on the day cause problems for their playing partners as well as the organisers who have to guess how much to spend on prizes. It also makes more work for the Competitions Secretary who has to produce ghost cards at short notice.

Thanks to all those who offered to help on the day and thanks to all the players, most of us managed to get around in about four and a quarter hours, ok for a competition like this.
