It is with a mix of regret and anticipation that I write to you with the latest Green keeping news. Pete Varlow (Course Manager) is moving back to his former course of Cams Hall Golf Club where he was deputy some 10 years ago. Pete has always wanted to return to his local Club as Course Manager and so when the opportunity came up had to go for it.
We wish Pete well in his new role and thank him for his time at South Winchester Golf Club.
Moving in the other direction to join us at South Winchester will be Andy George. Having completed his Foundation degree in golf course management back in 2004, Andy has honed his knowledge and skill at a number of courses such as The Dartmouth Hotel Golf & Spa and the Belfry before moving onto the Course manager position at Sherfield Oaks Golf Club. After 3 years Andy was promoted to Cams Hall Estate Golf Club as Regional Course Manager and is currently studying for his Master Green keeping award.
The switch will happen in the next week or so, but as the courses are so close expect to see both faces around as they help each other to settle in and support each other in the future.
I’m sure you’ll all join me in thanking Pete for his time with us and welcoming Andy and wishing them both well in their new roles.
