Hard to believe, but over a month after the last fixture, due to the washout on match 2, the Winter League swung back into action on Saturday. The Northerly winds brought a reminder that this is indeed winter golf but did nothing to cool the heat of the competition with some very close matches across the board. No less than fifteen out of the twenty individual matches were not settled until the 17th or 18th holes and such close competition was then also reflected in the team scores where four out of the five team matches ended up level at 10 points each.
However, one team spoiled the symmetry on the score sheet and it was the Hackers who eventually stepped forward to claim the only victory on the day over the Eagles and thereby taking the plaudits on the day.
Second place therefore belonged to everyone else (except the Eagles) but, by virtue of scoring 16 bonus points on the day, the Fleetwood Macs edged in front of the pack to claim the prizes thanks in no short measure to a 7 & 6 win by Mr McEwan in the very last match of the day.
Winners – Hackers – Each Receive £18 Voucher; Mary Saltrick, Mark Neilson, Julie Neilson, Jo Lockett, Paul Kille & Jane O’Hara
Runnners-Up – Fleetwood Macs, Each Receive £12 Voucher: Mike Fleetwood, Alastair Jones, Don Couper, Peter Earwaker, Nathan Stock & Alan McEwan.
Great days golf, great competition and looking forward to the next match on November 10th when the start times will be earlier due to the clocks going back.
Regards
Kevin Watson, Winter League CEO
