A wonderful homage to all that has been given by every Captain who has served our great Club took place on Sunday 12th August.
A team of 14 past Club Captains lead by Steve Barney took on a team selected by our 2018 Captain Stevie McCallum, with 8 past Ladies Captains lead by Jane Fenner matching up against at the currents Ladies Captains team lead by Jane O’Hara.
The grey skies grey and forecast for heavy rain didn’t put off these hardened club stalwarts and their opponents, who between them have all contributed many hours on behalf of the Club over the last 25 years.
In the mens event the past Captains relinquished the initiative in the early games, mainly due to some excellent golf from their opponents. Special mention to our Vice Captain Pete Tubb who was personally level par through to the end of his match alongside Nathan Stock. The match then got interesting as ‘in form’ Malcolm Berryman with Steve Gibbs, and John Hartley with Les LcIlroy dragged things back with a win a piece, but with some very close matches towards the end falling to Captains team, including a win for Stevie McCallum himself alongside Barry Wilton, it was the Captains team who earned the right to take the trophy 5 games to 2.
Although the ladies were only a small band of merry past captains this year the games were played in a fun but competitive manner, which again saw the captains team victorious with a 3 – 1 win. Congratulations to Tricia Cameron and Karen Sprunt who brought home a win for the past captains and so avoided a “white wash”. There is always next year!!
