At a recent Conference at St Mellion Golf Club one the topics discussed was the withdrawal of many fungicides and pesticides in the industry, our course suffered tremendously last year as a result of the proliferation of “Chafer Bugs”, specifically the damage caused by birds (Rooks) digging for them.
On hand at the conference was a company called Syngenta who manufacture the chemical pesticide “Acelepryn” which targets the Chafer grubs and meets all the current legislation in terms of safety and the environment. Syngenta currently await Michal Gove to approve its use.
As a result of the conference SWGC and in particular our course manager Peter Varlow is in close communication with Glen Kirby of Syngenta so we are at the forefront of discussions and notification of its approval. In the meantime Peter has secured the services of Glen to visit our course and identify definitively the type of grubs we have, their lifecycle and advise us on the optimum window to spray for maximum efficiency in controlling the population.
